Why Pilates Reformer Mats are a Must
Pilates mats for reformers used to be the type of thing that were basically improvised from using the same material that is commonly found in sleeping bag mats or kitchen cabinet liners. They were rarely designed to fit the actual reformer and would slide or bunch up quickly during a workout which was quite frustrating for most people who tried to use them.
Thankfully that has all changed and now reformer mats (some people call them reformer towels) are a must for providing a comfortable Pilates workout while making sure that all precautions are taken to keep germs and harmful chemicals at a distance.
Designed with comfort and safety in mind, the top layer is made of a durable faux suede that is comfortable to the skin while also easy to clean and care for. It does not feel sticky to the skin like the reformer covering that is usually made of vinyl. This can feel uncomfortable especially if sweaty skin is involved when in contact with a vinyl covering.
The bottom layer of the mat is made of a non-slip durable rubber that will hold itself in place during the workout while not bunching or lumping up.
Many people with longer hair also prefer these mat towels due to the fact that they cover the head rest of the reformer which also covers the slot/crack between the head rest and the carriage. This keeps hair from getting stuck in the slot/crack and pulling which can be painful and annoying during the workout.
Once your workout is done then feel free to toss your sFera Pilates mat into the washing machine if you feel the need. However do NOT put the mat in a dryer as it will damage the material that it is made out of.
Another big advantage of using a reformer mat towel is that it protects your skin from harmful chemicals that are often used to disinfect reformer surfaces after a workout. Pretty much all Pilates studios require their reformers to be sanitized after every workout and it is only fitting considering that we don’t want to be rolling around in someone else’s sweat during our workout.
Reformer mat towels for Pilates workouts provide a whole new experience in comfort, hygiene as well as safety which is so important in our current world.
